Send us your own Adwest steering box and have it rebuilt to original specification — inspection first, fully tested, and recorded.

How it works

Inspection first. Before any work begins, your box is stripped and assessed. You get a clear picture of its condition — no surprises, no anonymous cores swapped in.

Rebuilt to specification. Worn components are replaced with the correct parts and reassembled using controlled processes.

Tested and recorded. Every reconditioned unit is measured and tested, with the results recorded so the proof travels with the box.

It's the same standard we apply to new production: traceable parts, controlled processes and evidence-backed testing. The difference is that it's your box, returned to you as it should be.

Ready to start? Read the full process and pricing on the Reconditioning & Services page, or get in touch with any questions.

Why we set out to bring original Adwest steering back to the Defender — and what 'genuine' really means when safety-critical parts are involved.

We didn't think that was good enough. The Adwest name carried a century of British engineering behind it, and a reputation earned across more than a million Defenders. Bringing it back properly — with the right licensing, the right tooling and the right standards — felt like the only thing worth doing.

What "genuine" means to us

Genuine isn't a marketing word. For us it means three things:

Traceable parts — every component accounted for, no anonymous cores.

Controlled processes — built to original specification, the way the factory intended.

Evidence-backed testing — measured, tested and recorded, so the proof travels with the box.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to, and it's why we describe the result simply: as if the factory never shut.

You can read more about the heritage behind the name, or explore our current product range.

We've launched a dedicated home for genuine Adwest steering — heritage, products, testing and reconditioning for the Land Rover Defender, all in one place.

For decades, the original Adwest steering box was fitted to over a million Defenders. As the only officially licensed producer of original Adwest steering gears, BAM Engineering built this site so that owners, restorers and the trade have a single, trustworthy reference point — not another anonymous aftermarket listing.

What you'll find here

Heritage — the story of Adwest steering and why the name still matters.

Products — new-production, OE-specification steering boxes for left- and right-hand drive.

Reconditioning — rebuild your own box to original specification, inspected and tested.

Testing & verification — how every unit is measured, tested and recorded.

We'll be using this News section to share updates, behind-the-scenes engineering, and stories from owners and the trade. If you'd like to follow along, you'll find us on Instagram and LinkedIn.

Got a question about your Defender's steering? Get in touch — we're happy to help.
